Steps to Better Start

Accessing Better Start early intervention funding involves three straightforward steps.

The restored Better Start pathway

Better Start early intervention funding was accessed through a registration and information pathway. This restored page explains the three main steps families followed: making contact, completing assessment and registration, and receiving referral information about early intervention services.

Better Start has closed for new registrations, so this page should be read as historical programme guidance. If you are looking for current disability supports, start with the NDIS transition page, Continuity of Support, or the state and territory contacts page.

  1. Step 1 - Making Contact

Families contacted the Better Start Registration and Information Service to ask questions, confirm what evidence was needed, and book an eligibility assessment.

  2. Step 2 - Assessment and Registration

The child's age, diagnosis, residential status, and other registration details were checked by the Registration and Information Service.

  3. Step 3 - Referral

Once approved, families received confirmation of registration and information about accessing suitable early intervention services.
